A Word About The Skills Section Of This Website...

What we’ve posted on this website is a handful of sample articles from the Skills section of the Vault. Just enough to give you a feel for how these articles are written and what they cover.

Formulaic writing…

Each article  starts with a plain statement of why that skill matters — not a dramatic speech, just the honest practical reason a sane person would want to know this.

Then it breaks the skill down into its working parts, named and explained in plain English. No jargon without explanation. No assumption that you already know things you don’t know yet.

And every article ends with a note about practice. Because reading about how to use a compass doesn’t make you a navigator. Skills live in the body, not on the page. The articles give you the knowledge. Practice gives you the skill.

What this website DOESN’T show…

Inside the Vault there are fifteen Skills articles… covering navigation, fire starting, knots, carpentry, plumbing, electrical repairs, sewing, food preservation, animal husbandry, weather reading, foraging, vehicle mechanics, ham radio operation, and teaching these skills to your family.

That’s just the Skills section…

The full Vault contains eleven sections and over 100 guides… covering everything a genuinely prepared household needs to know. The sample articles on this page are just that — samples. The real library is in the Vault.

These aren’t SURVIVAL skills, they’re LIFE skills…

That framing drives us a little crazy. Navigating with a map and compass isn’t a survival skill — it’s a LIFE skill. One that our grandparents probable took for granted that everyone possessed.

Knowing how to fix a leaky faucet isn’t survival…

It’s basic competence that used to be common. Starting a fire, preserving food, reading the weather, keeping a vehicle running — none of this is extreme. None of this requires a bunker or a tinfoil hat.

It’s for people who’d like to be genuinely capable in the world they actually live in.
