Talk’s CHEAP!
Here’s the dirty little secret about “preppers” and prepping. Most people who post in the threads and forums… never actually take action.
They join the Facebook groups and surf Youtube…
They know exactly what they SHOULD do. They could tell you chapter and verse about water storage ratios and bug-out bag contents… and the difference between freeze-dried and dehydrated food.
And then they go to bed… and wake up the next morning and do it again…
If that’s you…
Don’t feel bad. You’re part of the huge majority. The gap between knowing and doing is one of the oldest problems there is. Philosophers have been writing about it since before Grandpaw’s grandfather was born.
But in preparedness… that gap has CONSEQUENCES…
The family that for years has been meaning to start prepping… but never quite got around to it, will find out what that gap costs when the shelves go empty. The household that always intended to fill those water jugs will learn the hard way that good intentions just don’t cut it. Knowledge without action is just entertainment.
So how DO you develop the action habit?
Same way you develop any other habits. You start SMALL, and you start NOW.
The truth about feeling “ready”? You never will.
There will always be a reason to wait. “Not enough money. “”Not enough time.” I’ll start after the holidays.” “I’ll get serious about it in the spring.” And meanwhile? The calendar keeps moving… the shelves stay empty… and the plan stays theoretical.
Pick one thing… and ACT…
- Fill three water jugs today.
- Buy an extra bag of rice this week.
- Stick $20 in an envelope and put it somewhere safe.
Just that one thing. Do it before you go to bed tonight. That’s it. That’s the whole strategy.
Here’s what happens when you do that ONE thing.
You feel the difference between knowing and doing. And that feeling is addictive! The jug of water sitting in your closet isn’t just water. It’s evidence that you’re the kind of person who takes action.
Then you do the NEXT one thing… and the next… (It’s a momentum thing.)
Grandpaw didn’t build his whole farm in a day. He built it one fence post, one new row in the garden, one jar of canned tomatoes at a time. Over the years. Consistently. Without waiting for the perfect conditions that never arrived.
The action habit is just deciding that “DONE” is better than perfect. That “someTHING” is better than nothing.
And have you noticed? Someday ISN’T on the calendar.
